Products that work like the Peter Thomas Roth Instant FirmX Eye

Are you one of the millions of people who have watched @trinidad1967’s viral TikTok video in which she demonstrates the Peter Thomas Roth Instant FirmX Eye product tighten her undereye bags in a matter of minutes? If so, then you are undoubtedly super intrigued by this little black tube of instant tightening magic. You may have even searched for it on multiple retailer sites only to find that it has completely sold out everywhere. We saw an instant spike of this product being searched for in our ingredient-list similarity tracker. Luckily for everyone in need of some eye area tightening there is a solution and another very similar product that you can buy!

How does it work?

The ingredient that makes the PTR Instant FirmX Eye instantly tighten is Sodium Silicate. It’s a film forming ingredient that essentially creates a film on the skin that makes the skin appear taut and tighter temporarily. We know a lot of people are going to be looking for alternatives now that they are aware of this ingredient and what it can do at least temporarily. We pulled a backend report and identified all the products we have in the backend that contain it. A lot of them are products with claims to lift and tighten, even wrinkle reduce but only a few seem to be specifically marketed for the eye area. Here is the full list of products containing Sodium Silicate:

The Top Alternatives For FirmX Eye

There are 2 that caught our eye both in terms of price and targeted use for the eye area. The first is the Strivectin Hyperlift Eye Instant Eye Fix. Strivectin describes their eye fix as “a temporary tightening treatment that instantly reduces the look of under-eye bags, lines and crepiness.” While Peter Thomas Roth claims that their TikTok famous Instant FirmX Eye “instantly helps tighten, firm and smooth the look of the eye area, temporarily minimizing the appearance of crow's feet, fine lines, deep wrinkles and puffiness.” Sounds pretty similar to me! The Strivectin product has the Sodium Silicate as well as the same synthetic peptide Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7. The description of how to use the 2 products is also very similar as is the description of the texture. The PTR product is a bit cheaper but since it’s likely going to be sold out for months to come - if you can’t wait to de-puff your undereye bags for a few hours, you really won’t mind paying a bit more for the Strivectin Instant Eye Fix.

The second intriguing option is the Westmore 60 Seconds Eye Effects Firming Gel. It also uses sodium silicate to create the instant tightening effect. This comes in at $39 for 10mL so it’s similar pricing to the Strivectin. What is super interesting about this option is that it is tinted. The reason it’s tinted is that sometimes one of the complaints about these types products it that they leave a white residue visible on the skin. We did some research about why this happens and it’s about the fact that sodium silicate is a film forming ingredient. It forms a layer of 'glass' on your skin but when you move etc., that layer cracks into a fine powder. Seems like a possibly good way to tackle the inherent white residue issue. The Westmore Eye Gel is meant to be applied before makeup onto skin cleansed with an oil-free cleanser.

We’ve found that the pros (does have a visible effect if used correctly) and cons (potential white residue, only temporary effect) read similarly in the reviews across all of these types of products. Seems like the positive reviews and the negative reviews are similar no matter which brand you’re looking at. Leads us to think that it is likely, whichever version you choose, there are quite a few comparables or alternatives for the sold out Peter Thomas Roth Instant FirmX Eye. That is one of the good things about the utterly endless amount of beauty products out there - never doubt, there is always a comparable!
